This was a sketch show which had extremely accomplished and well executed sketches and a great device that linked the sketches together. The running joke of “I can’t do that” and the dramatic device of recalling the show in the performer’s old age worked well and the final dramatic ending had the emotional power to move. As always, some of the sketches were silly but the balance between the silliness and the links was held very well without it feeling forced. There was even a montage of a Ben falling in love with a lady in the front row and flashes of their lives growing old together. This was sketch comedy at its most polished and intelligent and they thoroughly deserved their Edinburgh comedy award nomination.
