Basement Sate is a new cocktail and dessert bar launching in Soho on Thursday 4th September 2014. The only of its kind in London, offering beautifully made desserts, expertly prepared cocktails and cutting edge DJs, it is the brainchild of Cathleen McGarry, the co-owner of the world-renowned Sherry Butt cocktail bar in Paris. Aiming to diversity of the drinking and nightlife scenes in London, it is a place where people can enjoy exquisite desserts, drink quality cocktails and later, dance, all in a cool and dynamic atmosphere.
Situated in the heart of Soho on Broadwick Street, the 120 capacity basement bar’s interiors are polished and tasteful with raw brickwork and rich furnishings. The dark wood panelled snugs, low lighting, copper topped tables, green leather seating and furniture designed by Fleming and Howland provides an overall atmosphere reminiscent of a lovingly-designed living room.
Basement Sate will serve an impeccable selection of desserts from its open kitchen, priced from £8-£13 and available until 12am. The menu has been created by Dorian Picard, a Pastry Chef from Provence who was previously at Gordon Ramsay’s Maze and the Club Gascon with Pascal Aussignac. Inspired by the cocktail menu, Dorian has matched the desserts to the tasting notes of the cocktails, bringing out subtle undertones and complementary flavours.
Designed by Byly Tran (L’Entree Des Artistes & Prescription Cocktail Club), the 12 strong cocktail list at Basement Sate is made up of inventive house creations, twists on classics and a range of carefully selected quality spirits. Beet Me Up is a mix of vodka, beetroot, ginger and mascato that is strong on ginger spice, lovely beetroot aroma that is chilled and tropical. The gin, white port, fernet branca and ginger ale cocktail Eagle In The Tub is easy drinking and refreshing. The design and menu extends to the bespoke glassware, the regularly changing organic wines and craft bottled beers.
Throughout the week, jazz, electronic hip hop and instrumental will provide a chilled out vibe. And at the weekend, guest and resident DJs will play a mix of soulful and deep house as the bar takes on a high-octane party atmosphere. With a long bar counter, booths and separate seating, Basement Sate is perfect for groups both big and small.
