Rory Kinnear as Iago and Adrian Lester as Othello is an exciting casting. The production is set in modern day and the pair as soldiers on a tour of duty, It largely works well but for the explanation of a civilian Desdamona presence in a military camp. The set is outstanding with its temporary military base backdrop with retractable portacabins housing various indoors scenes. Rory Kinnear is a great Iago: sly and cunning and his understatedness works well with the tricks and lies he gets up to. The line: “Lie with her? lie on her?” is delivered with an absolutely perfect hushed tones that subverts with his faux modesty which exemplify his performance. Adrian Lester is a rather gentle Othello but burst through his shell in the final scene and convinces with its drama.
