Club Fourty Four

This is the concluding event of a series of five site specific performances on the First World War in a collaboration between Cityread and Look Left Look Right. Based on the novel My Dear I Wanted To Tell You by Louisa Young, the show takes the form of a cabaret show featuring singers and hoola hoop performer, with actors as soldiers returned from the war interspersed among the audience to tell their stories, The main storyline is a follow up on the story of Riley as he returns after his surgery on his jaw. The dynamics of the on stage performances and the actors around the space works well and there is a fluidity to switching between the two which can be difficult to manage. It is obvious that a lot of work has gone into this and it is a shame that it only has a single performance. Great piece of theatre and a thoroughly enjoyable hour.
